Reimagining the John Andrews’ Octagon Offices, a contemporary art institution is birthed for the production, presentation and propagation of art. The institution radically typical notions of artist residences by realising financial autonomy as an essential element for productive creative output and expression. The institution provides artists with the pragmatic infrastructure to be liberated from economic pressures. A gallery and three houses – the production house, press house and auction house become the programmatic framework for the institution to provide artists with a platform to showcase and sell art in a single building envelope. Dominated by mostly temporary collections and artworks produced by emerging artworks, the institution ensures its contemporaneity and relevance in the modern context.
